12 years of Barber Beast on the Bay

On behalf of Barber National Institute, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Erie community for 12 unforgettable years of Barber Beast on the Bay.

What began as a bold idea grew into one of our region’s most unique events- challenging thousands of participants, inspiring teamwork, and showcasing the beauty of Presque Isle. More importantly, the Beast became a powerful way to raise awareness and support for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism, whose courage and determination remind us what true strength looks like.

Over the years, we have been inspired by countless stories of personal triumph. From first-time participants conquering fears, to adapted athletes completing obstacles alongside family and friends, to teams rallying together to carry one another across the finish line- the Beast became more than a race. It was a celebration of perseverance, inclusion, and the incredible spirit of our participants.

This success would not have been possible without the many volunteers who gave their time, energy and heart to make each Beast extraordinary. We are equally grateful to our sponsors, partners - Waldameer and Water World and Presque Isle State Park staff - for their steadfast support, as well as the thousands of individuals and families who ran, donated, and cheered.

As we conclude this chapter, we carry forward the spirit of Beast on the Bay- resilience, community, and inclusion- in everything we do at Barber National Institute.

Thank you, Erie, for making Barber Beast on the Bay an achievement we will always be proud to share with you.
